Alexey’s Hope to Walk Comes Closer

Alexey, a 14 year old boy who was born with cerebral palsy, had several operations on his legs completed in late autumn with the help of the 1% Project. Since then he has started to move a little but his legs were too weak to walk by himself. Alexy’s mother performs massage on him and helps his body to exercise the best she can in an attempt to encourage movement in her sons legs. By the time Alexey is due for more operations on his feet in the winter time his legs will hopefully be stronger and in better health.

That is why the 1% Project decided to help Alexey again by buying a special bike specifically for leg exercises. This bike can be rendered immobile for use in the apartment as well as driven outside once his legs are strong enough. Of course Alexey was overjoyed at the opportunity to ride a bike. Like any other child, Alexey enjoys a good bike ride in the sunshine but he never believed he would have the opportunity. At first it was difficult for him to push the pedals so it was necessary for his Mother to provide a little assistance. However, given time and Alexey’s usual persistence, his legs will become stronger just in time for spring.

I always feel satisfaction when I see someone’s dreams come true. Thanks to the courage of Alexey I am inspired to work harder and see more people benefit from the 1% Project.
